Teaching children about Jewish death traditions

Many in the Jewish community lack basic knowledge of important Jewish traditions around death and mourning. In this session, I will present a new curriculum I am writing on this topic and ask for your feedback. The Jewish Association for Death Education is developing this six-part curriculum to teach students of all ages key elements to understanding Jewish death and mourning concepts, rooted in ancient practices yet enormously comforting and beneficial in today’s challenging world. The curriculum has six broad themes – appreciation, comfort, memory, honor, care and reflection. These can tie into your teaching about ethical wills, shiva, cemeteries, shmirah, burial, taharah and the afterlife.
