In this session, I will share with you the story of my grandfather, Chaskel Frand who was a Klezmer in Poland, the sole survivor of his family of musicians. Out of the frustration of not being able to properly dedicate a monument to my father’s lost community of Dubiecko, Poland, and its Jewish Cemetery, I reached out to musicians of klezmer music to at least immortalize my grandfather’s life, and his entire lost family of musicians. What happened next was nothing short of miraculous! I will share my story and a documentary in progress as well as underline the importance of using primary sources and artifacts in the teaching of the Holocaust.
