False Facts? How Jews Rewrite the Past to Meet the Needs of the Present

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

In this provocative session we will examine ways in which Jews have rewritten history from the Bible through today. We will pose foundational questions about plagiarism, censorship, and the manipulation of facts. Judaism has always involved changing representations of the past to resonate with evolving assumptions and expectations of the present. The material and questions we will discuss are most relevant for sparking conversations among high school students and adults, particularly in light of contemporary claims of “false facts” and questions of truth. You will discover that there are both positive and negative dimensions to changing our presentation of the past for the present.
